Named after John Lennon’s son, Sean “Blues Puppy” Riquelme, 20, dazzles fans with his ability to sing and play guitar. Sean began his career at the age of 11 by playing his “Tribute to Guitar Legends” at local venues/coffee shops/festivals paying homage to early influences of Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix, Santana, Buddy Guy, BB King, Eric Clapton, and David Gilmour.
At 13, while performing at a B.C. blues venue, local musician Kathy Frank gave him the nickname “Blues Puppy”.
At 14 Blues Puppy opened up for Blues Legend “Buddy Guy”.
At 15 Blues Puppy, with Producer Michael Burley, began working on his first Original E.P.
While capable of playing with veteran musicians, Blues Puppy felt the need to play with people comparable in age. Upon his 18th birthday he returned to Edmonton and met John (Riley) “Rawlo” (Chernoff) at a local jam. Their love of the same styles of music instantly sparked and Blues Puppy’s thirst to play and create with someone his own age soon began to be quenched.
John Rawlo, 18, (Riley-Named after BB King), a graduate of the Berklee College of Music 5 Week Summer Program, started playing drums at age 11. At 12, he was drumming in D R T sharing the stage with Jack de Keyzer, Jefferson Starship, Tom Cochrane, Dennis DeYoung, Loverboy, Kim Mitchell, Creedence Clearwater Revisited and Trooper. He has played The Edmonton Rock Music Festival 4 times…twice with D R T, once with David Gogo and with The Stephanie Harpe Experience. Rawlo and his D R T band mates co-wrote “Slow it Down” with David Gogo for his Juno Nominated Soul Bender album in the winter of 2011. Rawlo has been described by many as one of the finest young drummers in Edmonton.
“Riley is one of the best drummers I’ve heard under the age of 25 years old and probably the best drummer under 25 in Alberta”—Mike Plume-Singer/Songwriter-Nashville TN.
Blues Puppy and Rawlo met Rob Newhook-Bass through their collaboration with The Stephanie Harpe Experience. Newhook’s vocal harmonies are a strength to the Trio and his groove is second to none. The eldest of the Trio, he’s happiest in his comfort zone…Locked in with the drummer to form the perfect pocket to make the lead man sound great. Providing the perfect amount of “Performance” but never compromising the song or outshining the lead man. The Blues Puppy Trio rhythm section would stand up against any veteran rhythm section out there.
The Blues Puppy Trio has been wowing audiences since November of 2014 and never cease to surprise their fans with an ever changing set list guaranteed to bring music lovers to their feet and onto the dance floor. Their professional dress on stage impresses and jaws drop when the music starts. The Blues Puppy Trio is ready for the next step. They are 3 very talented, well-mannered and polite young men whose terrific attitudes, passion and desire will have you remembering them long after you’ve seen them play.
